ABOUT SOUNDOLOGY

Nainita is one of the UK’s leading award winning composers for film & television, based in London, UK.

She has written many memorable scores for a multitude of film and TV projects, for broadcasters including the BBC, C4, ITV, C5, HBO, SKY, Discovery, PBS, Nat Geo and Smithsonian, as well as for most of the leading independent UK film companies, and has developed a reputation for producing music that is original, rich, inspiring and diverse.

Her most recent commissions include the feature documentary Musical ‘MUMBAI HIGH-THE MUSICAL first shown on the BBC and feature doc-drama THE CONFESSIONS OF THOMAS QUICK (BFI / Film4 / Picturehouse) for which she won the award for Best Original Composition: Feature Film Score Award at the Music+Sound Award UK 2016. Many of her projects have won or been nominated for numerous awards including OSCARS, BAFTAs, EMMYs and RTS Awards. Nainita has recently been nominated for an RTS Best Music Award 2014 for the Best Music for THE DAY KENNEDY DIED, The RTS Best Sound award went to Vinnie Jones: Russia’s Toughest (Nat Geo) for which she wrote the score and MUSIC+SOUND AWARD 2014 nomination for the acclaimed drama CHECKPOST.

She moves seamlessly between orchestral music and a multitude of styles fusing ethnic, sound design and contemporary music.

Nainita scored the Internationally acclaimed OSCAR nominated film LITTLE TERRORIST, which garnered her a Lucarnia Intl film music award. Other dramas include an eclectic score for the Emmy winning BBC Drama MAXWELL (David Suchet and Patricia Hodge) as well as the ITV1 drama TO KIDNAP A PRINCESS. Nainita has also worked on numerous feature films including LITTLE BUDDHA (Keanu Reeves, Bridget Fonda), BACKBEAT (Beatles Biopic), LESSONS OF DARKNESS (Werner Herzog), AUGUST (Anthony Hopkins) and HACKERS (Angelina Jolie) as well as contributing specialist music for GREAT EXPECTATIONS (Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow) and scoring over 30 Feature Film Trailers (starring Maggie Cheung, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li).

Having forged an enviable reputation in Television, where her eclectic and versatile sound has contributed to a vast body of work, she has also sat on the juries for the RTS Awards, Baftas, Ivor Novellos and Emmys, and is frequently asked to give talks and masterclasses throughout the UK and Internationally (from South Africa to Copenhagen) including Sheffield Doc Fest.

Factual TV series such as THE MEKONG WITH SUE PERKINS (BBC) , STREET PATROL UK (BBC1), VINNIE JONES: RUSSIA’S TOUGHEST (Nat Geo), DINOSAUR BRITAIN (ITV), ROAD WARS (the long running ratings success series for Sky One) , BRITAINS BIGGEST ADVENTURES WITH BEAR GRYLLS (ITV) and JOHN BARROWMAN’S PET HOSPITAL (C4) Natural History including the new BBC NHU series TRIBES, PREDATORS & ME and INTO THE WILD with GORDON BUCHANAN, the BBC NHU award winning series WILD BATTLEFIELDS and numerous films for the NATURAL WORLD strand that have also been musically acclaimed at several Intl film festivals including Jackson Hole and Missoula.

Sound Design for Animation has garnered her the Normand Roger Prize for sound at the Annecy Film Festival for THE OCCASION.

Commercial and channel branding campaigns for companies include Foster’s Lager, Samsung Mobile phones and The Weather Channel, Dubai. Documentaries for various strands include Storyville, Cutting Edge, Dispatches, Exposure, Revealed, Under the Sun, Real Crime, Natural World, Wildlife on One, First Cut, Perspectives

NAINITA BIOGRAPHY

Nainita obtained degrees in Maths and Music technology before attending the National Film and Television school after which she began work in the film industry working on numerous Hollywood & British feature films including “Little Buddha”  (Dir: B.Bertolluci), “Back Beat” (Dir: Iain Softley “The Skeleton Key”), “Interview with the Vampire” (N.Jordan), “Death Machine” (Dir: Steve Norrington “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, “Blade”) and “August” (Anthony Hopkins).

Nainita’s eclectic musical upbringing as a child led to her studying the sitar, piano, guitar, tabla and violin.

A desire to go back to her musical roots led to her working as a freelance music engineer working with many top artistes and bands ranging from The Damned to Tori Amos.

This led to work with Peter Gabriel during the famous “Real World Recording Week” sessions over two years, working with over 70 of the worlds top artistes including Papa Wemba, Billy Cobham, Daniel Lanois, Jane Sibbery, Nigel Kennedy, Sinead O’Connor, Ravi Shankar and Peter Gabriel.  Nainita is also a Media Executive Committee memmber of BASCA – the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

MALCOLM - TEAM MEMBER

Team member Malcolm has a degree in Music and plays classical, flamenco, electric guitar and orchestral Double bass.

He has an extensive knowledge of both classical and contemporary music.

He has worked with the ECO, as well as being a multi instrumentalist session player. He owns and plays a wide range of exotic world instruments.
